As a Faqih, Shaykh Abdurraghiem authored 30 books on various aspects of Islam such as Tauhid, Salaah, Zakah, Fasting, Hajj (from the viewpoint of all four major Schools of Thought), Maintenance and Child-care in Islam, Islamic Jurisprudence and Muslim Personal Law; including Marriage, Divorce and Inheritance. Four of his publications are endorsed by Egypt’s Al-Azhar University. These are; The Comparative Study of Inheritance in Islam (376 pages), A Journey Through the World of Belief – A Book on Tauhid / Monotheism (377 pages), The Supernatural: Fact or fiction in Islam (96 pages) and The Laws pertaining to Mosques in Islam (176 pages). Shaykh Abdurraghiem’s final book published in his lifetime took seven years of research and writing. The Evolution of Islamic Legislation Volume One is a 606-page in-depth study of the development of the Shari’ah through the first three periods in Islamic history. Volume Two covering the fourth, fifth and sixth was unfortunately not realised. Shaykh Abdurraghiem sadly did not live to see a final book – to which he painstakingly dedicated his last few years – published. This book, A Beginner Journey through the World of Islam is in its final stages of editing.

Excerpt

”The beauty of the Shariah (Islamic law) is that it is eternally valid and applicable at anytime and anywhere. It is comprehensive and binding on all believers. I sincerely hope that this book will at least cause a spark in the hearts of so many fathers who are guilty of gross neglect of their wives and children. The head of a household has a moral obligation towards his family by providing them with support. Every wife by virtue of marriage is entitled to maintenance.”

The rights and the interests of children are the focus of this 250-page gem. Abdurraghiem Hasan Sallie is one of a few resolute South African authors of Islamic literature. Sallie who has written 21 other treasured pieces on a variety of topics succeeds in this latest publication conveying guidance for child-rearing in terms of (shariah) Islamic law. The effectiveness of this presentation becomes priceless, especially viewed against the background of the chronically flawed manner in which so many parents raise their children today. The book covers and provides guidance on a wide range of issues such as weaning, general rules for childcare, the husband who cannot support his wife, promiscuity and believe it or not, sensitive and sometimes ignored matters such as masturbation and sodomy. By means of quotations from the Holy Qur'an the author efficiently assists his readers in understanding the rights of children and the adult's responsibility towards them. To strengthen the cause in favour of our younger generation, Sallie also provides views of the different (Madh-hab) schools of thought plus (Hadith) narrations and reports of the deeds and sayings of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. This powerful combination ignites a deep sense of understanding why the adult's behaviour today has a direct impact on the type of person the toddler becomes when he or she faces the world one day. Hence, it is not difficult why respect for tomorrow's leaders turns out to be non-negotiable. The book is not reserved for Muslim readers as the rich glossary Abdurraghiem Hasan Sallie provides makes it an easy read irrespective of one's denomination.
