Reading, for me, feels like a basic bodily need such as breathing, eating and sleeping. My brain and soul need new ideas and higher understandings, which I find easiest to initially learn about (and enjoy) through reading. As with the other processes, I can easily fall into the habit of reading junk, pollution, etc. I have to make it a habit to read beauty, wisdom and quality, to surround myself with other thoughtful readers (and writers), and to recreational read in moderation.

Brooke Benoit is a writer, magazine and book editor, writing workshop facilitator and the founding editor of Fitra Journal – a Muslim homeschooling publication. She is also a Muslimah Recharge Specialist. Brooke, who unschools her children, resides on the southern coast of Morocco.

She has opened a literacy centre in the small Moroccan town of her residence. Many of the families in the area have one or both parents who are illiterate. The centre is developing several programmes to foster literacy, improved education and enrichment for all residents, young and old. Please consider donating a book to their budding library. You can send it directly from their Amazon wishlist: Aourir, Morocco Literacy Program or to donate funds to purchase books from local sellers (thereby supporting more families) in Morocco. Direct message Brooke Benoit on Instagram @brookbenoit for more info.
