This study traces the evolution of Islamic legislation (the shari’ah) through six periods. In this volume, the first three periods are explored, from the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, the four rightly guided caliphs, the Prophet’s companions and their successors.
In Islam, no man has been authorised to promulgate or enact any Islamic law.Not even the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ had the authority to legislate unless he was ordered to do so through divine revelation.
